at the New Holiday Neighborhood - Boulder, Colorado
Holiday
Neighborhood is preserving
the history of the drive in theater. If you have lived in Boulder
a long time, you might recall the days of the twin screen Holiday
Drive-In Theater. The theater operated at this site from 1969 to
1988. Easy Rider Lane has been named after the first movie that
brought people to north Boulder. The 1950 "Googie" style
Marquee has been designated a local historic landmark and is ready
for restoration. You can enjoy a view of this this marquee from
the community gardens or the bike path along US 36.
Present Status The
existing condition of the structure is highly deteriorated and stands
today much neglected. see

A state of urgency
exists for the restoration of this structure. Every day, the prevailing
winds and elements subject the sign to additional stress and deterioration.
Rusted areas continue to expand, paint continues to peel off, readerboard
panels continue to disappear. The sign, unfortunately, has been
the object of abuse, with stone throwing, target practice and some
graffiti evident. We must act now to preserve what remains and protect
it by restoring it to command its due respect and attaching the
plaque which denotes its historic designation.
Boulder
Housing Partners, a non profit organization,
is requesting donations to assist in their $25,000 - $30,000 restoration
effort of the historic Holiday Drive-in Marquee. Help preserve a
piece of Americana with a small or large donation. Donations are
processed by Paypal on behalf of Boulder Housing Partners.
Donations are tax deductible. Boulder Housing
Partners will send you a letter of receipt noting your donation
amount and stating its tax deductible status.
